Stabilising a working team after redundancy

After redundancy and business organisational restructure, uncertainty, nervousness, low moral or performance, unexpected resignations are all possible. In order to mitigate the effects of these negative aspects, I have summarised three main goals and suggestions that could remind us of the focused steps to achieve stability within the team again.

  • The main goal should be to support the team to adapt to the changing business conditions, by providing “psychological safety”, by creating an environment where each team member feels safe, respected and supported.
  • Second goal is to maintain productivity / BAU during periods of stress. This can be coordinated via the team identity – re-state the team vision, mission, and focus on the team purpose, problem solving and cooperation.
  • And the third goal is to continue to create healthy, balanced and focused team. This healthy and balanced point is very important as that’s the way the team members feel strong and supported in the new situation and become focused and resilient. Let’s have the team breath, adapt, focus on priorities that move the team forward, by supporting a resilient mindset and prepare for obstacles.

The last point – implement little wins – identify little wins we can celebrate, motivate the team, appreciate the effort and work.
